When we got to the challenge today, I was not surprised to see that Cirie was gone. She was the clear weak link in Read, being completely non-present and all.
What did surprise me was the challenge itself. Or, rather, how Vince has set up this challenge.
First, our slogan. "DAVIS IS THE GREATEST #TEAMDAVIS2015"? Has our Captain gone mad? Are we a tribe of twelve year old boys?
Second, he made the decision to sit me out. Even after I outperformed half of our tribe at the first challenge, including himself, he made the choice to sit me out of this challenge. And that is something interesting to mull over.
Am I upset that I'm not competing in this particular challenge? No, not really. I know photo editing programs to an extent, but likely not enough to create a winning flag with all the requirements asked of us. But the positive thing is that I don't have to fully reveal that, as I won't be making any flags. As far as the rest of my tribe knows, I could be a flag making master or a bumbling fool. And I don't think that there is anything wrong with either perception, considering that I still performed well enough at the first challenge that it should give my tribemates pause to vote me out early, should we go to Tribal.
What I'm interested in is why Vince chose to sit me out in the first place. Given how Hali, Whitney and Morgan performed in the first challenge, I would think that sitting any one of those three would have been advantageous on paper. Is Vince continuing to keep me on the bottom forcefully so that I may be a target for voting? Or am I playing up my weakness a bit too much?
Either way, I'm not certain I can trust Vince Sly. He's consistently shown how he thinks of me: last, last, and last. And to be frank, I don't think of him quite so highly myself. We very nearly lost the first challenge because he became lazy with his firemaking. And this foolish slogan? Are you joking?
But my distrust of Vince isn't important enough to worry too much about at the moment, as we haven't gone to Tribal Council yet. Even if we do, voting me out ahead of Hali, a woman whose only words are complaints and whining and who has yet to prove herself capable, would be a major mistake for the Davis tribe...even if it is a smart game decision in the long run.
I have yet to make commitments to anyone as far as voting goes, which is either a major mistake or the right move. But if I were pressed into doing so at this time, I would absolutely trust Shirin and Coach. Both of them have shown me kindness, and they both seem like upfront people that I can keep close for now. It would be to my advantage to keep them both on good terms with me, should the worst happen.
