Given how close some of the races were in that Fire Making challenge, I'm quite relieved that our Davis Tribe managed to eke out victory from the jaws of possible defeat. I'm all for avoiding Tribal Council for as long as I possibly can, and now we have some momentum to work with.
With the results of the challenge, I think I'm in the exact spot I want to be in on the tribe at this moment. I obviously didn't give the Fire Making my complete attention, with Cirie being AWOL and my desire to stay off radars still intact. But even with that, I performed above several people on our tribe, including our Captain, who very nearly lost the challenge for us with how close his race was with Kim. I think that even if we do attend Tribal Council in the days to come, there will be better targets the tribe could be aiming for. I just don't see Hali lasting through our first Tribal, given how poorly she performed in the challenge and how rarely she speaks at camp.
Admittedly, if Hali were to be the first target at Tribal Council should Davis end up needing to go, I worry that I could very well be next. I'm uncertain if other people have been making agreements that I don't know about. I have steadfastly avoided approaching anyone for an alliance or even giving my word to anyone on the subject of voting, including Shirin. And no one has broached such a subject with me directly, either. I have to wonder if that's the norm for situations like this, or if I'm 100% out of the loop. Perhaps even Hali has an alliance with someone, maybe Morgan or Whitney, and I'm simply oblivious to it all.
But this is something I don't need to worry about, at least not at this particular moment. It is Read who is going to Tribal Council - not Davis.
Regarding this new twist, this "Secret Place" that the Tribes choose opposite members to go - I'm naturally curious about what it may be. Be it for good or for ill, both tribes have picked people that are seemingly on their way out to go there anyway. Cirie doesn't exist as far as this game is concerned, so Davis deciding to send her there is quite the obvious decision. Read must know that Hali is one of our weaker members, as well. Both of us seem to be anticipating this twist to be something beneficial for the players sent there.
My theory? I believe it has something to do with mutiny in some fashion. A clue to overthrow a Tribe Captain, or clues to a Hidden Immunity Idol, perhaps. And if this is what it actually is, then maybe appearing weak will be the right strategy after all, should I be sent there myself. We'll see in time, I believe. If it truly is something good, it is wasted on a player like Hali.
I'm looking forward to the next challenges, and I do hope that Davis begins a winning streak of a sort. Selfishly, because I will be less active than I would like for the next couple of days, as I must attend evening meetings on both Monday and Tuesday. If the rest of the challenges are also like the Fire Making ones, then I fear my lack of free time over the next couple of days will cause me to seriously become weak instead of me simply keeping a facade of weakness.
Still, I choose to remain optimistic until reality forces pessimism. I'll start to worry if Davis loses.
